Fluid modelling of microfluidic separator channels

چکیده
In a microfluidic ultrasonic separator device, the microchannel geometry is inherently angular due to the anisotropic etch processes used. A CFD model is used to investigate eddy formation induced by this angular geometry. Results are applicable to various microfluidic devices and show that certain etch patterns significantly reduce eddy formation. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Microfluidic arrays of fluid-fluid diffusional contacts as detection elements and combinatorial tools.
This paper describes microfluidic systems that can be used to investigate multiple chemical or biochemical interactions in a parallel format. These three-dimensional systems are generated by crossing two sets of microfluidic channels, fabricated in two different layers, at right angles. Solutions of the reagents are placed in the channels; in different modes of operation, these solutions can be...
متن کاملExploration of microfluidic devices based on multi-filament threads and textiles: A review.
In this paper, we review the recent progress in the development of low-cost microfluidic devices based on multifilament threads and textiles for semi-quantitative diagnostic and environmental assays. Hydrophilic multifilament threads are capable of transporting aqueous and non-aqueous fluids via capillary action and possess desirable properties for building fluid transport pathways in microflui...
متن کاملPropionic acid extraction in a microfluidic system: simultaneous effects of channel diameter and fluid flow rate on the flow regime and mass transfer
In this work, extraction of propionic acid from the aqueous phase to the organic phase (1-octanol) was performed in T-junction microchannels and effects of channel diameter and fluid flow rate on the mass transfer characteristics were investigated. The two-phase flow patterns in studied microchannels with 0.4 and 0.8 mm diameters were observed. Weber number and surface-to-volume ratio were ca...
متن کاملAccelerated Biofluid Filling in Complex Microfluidic Networks by Vacuum-Pressure Accelerated Movement (V-PAM).
Rapid fluid transport and exchange are critical operations involved in many microfluidic applications. However, conventional mechanisms used for driving fluid transport in microfluidics, such as micropumping and high pressure, can be inaccurate and difficult for implementation for integrated microfluidics containing control components and closed compartments. Here, a technology has been develop...
متن کاملA Low-aspect-ratio, Roll-to-roll Hot Embossed Inertial Microfluidic Sorter
This work presents a low-aspect-ratio (LAR) inertial microfluidic design compatible with roll-to-roll (R2R) hot embossing for size-based cell or microparticle separation in a low-cost and disposable format. The device consists of two segments of LAR channels in which inertial lift forces are used to differentiate lateral positions based on size for separation downstream. Separation of 18μm and ...
